Should I have a tank bigger than 80 gallons, if I want to set up a scheme built around 2 sharks. What kind of fish can I put with sharks? I want live plants, too. I have no idea what type of sharks I want. When I had fresh water fish I have always had 3 to 4 different types of sharks in my tanks and never really had a problem.

hey man 1st welcome to the board. 2nd I have 2 freshwater tanks also. I also have had freshwater sharks, But the thing is freshwater "SHARKS" are not really sharks and another thing is the big ones I havee seen only get at max 10-12 in. These sharks you see ppl talking about on here are REAL sharks, like leopards, nurse sharks and many others. The thing is they get HUGE like 6+ ft. So to answer your question YES you would have to get a huge tank like 3000 gal to hold a shark.
Since this is your 1st sw tank and I can tell you want an agressive tank. I would say get an 80 gal or bigger tank and put a hardy trigger in it (Huma Huma is a good 1), a dwarf lionfish (there are many different kinds of these I like my FuManChu cause of his color), and put a Snowflake Eel in there with some rocks with holes in them for him to get in. Another thing is have some crevices for the trigger to sleep in. Mine sleeps in an old clam hole. Hope this info helps you out.

If this is your first salt water tank, don't start out with sharks, they need care from a more experianced aquarist. An aggressive setup would be much easier.

I live in central jersey. My favorite store is Under Water World in Rosell Park. The owner is really informative, and he has the nicest fish and corals. It is a small store but all he sells is Salt water fish and corals, and some fresh water fish. His stuff is pretty expencive but I have never had a fish die that I havebought from him,and they are mostly all eating before you buy them. He also gets some nice big fish,Big Clown triggers, tangs, wrasses. Another good store I have been going to is Animals and things in Woodbridge, they have alot of fish, and they are reasonably priced. Since I set up my tank aqain all of my fish have come from them.My Emperor angel 4" that I just bought from them was $130,and it was there for about three months,it really nice,My Harlequin tusk 5" was $100,thats pretty good for one from Australia,Hippo Tang 4" $40 is the nicest one I have ever bought,Red SeaGreen Bird wrasse 5" $60,if you go there ask were the fish came from because they will have alot of the same fish, but from differant locations.
