I would be interested in knowing contributor's opinions regarding the most hardy Species available to the hobby.

To add: fish die in captivity for no apparent reason absent of visable indication of issues, polution or disease. A Morish idol in a 1000 gallon perfectly controlled Tank would probally die. Who are the hardy ones?

Any other cockroaches, I'm looking for survival instinct. I'm not interested in if the temp. drops 5 degrees all my guys roll over and croak.

Dominos...Hardy as hell...aggressive as hell. Cool looking in small schools... similar to a marauding pack of wolves.

It looks like the damsel family wins.
In a 8 ft coral tank, Could you put 6 dominos
10 green chromis, a few yellow tail blue damsels, maybe a few blue chromis together or would we have a full scale war of the fish.

So damsels can be put into large groups without fighting if they have the space?
Sometime in the future That 8 footer will be my sump. I just need to get a bigger house to fit the tank. or knock out a few walls.

You to can go big, remember all that equipment that you have purchased has next to no after market value. Bad news if your getting out of the hobby but good news if your coming into it. Keep checking the papers. I paid... are you ready. $400.00 for my 8 foot tank with a sump/sump pump/and elimitator protein skimmer. I build the stand
for $100.00 in lumber. included was 200lbs of dry figi rock which given time will become as live as my live rock shipped from Figi. In my area there was a 2000 gal tank, stand, equipment, lights, critters, several hundred lbs of live rock, for $2,500.00. it was over priced I thought. New, what do you think it cost to set that tank up?

My question again, The damsel family in quantity in a 8 foot tank, will they beat their brains in or do ok?

The only reason Morish Idols die is because they mate for life. If they aren't shipped w/ their mate the whole time, then they'll die within days-mouths of loneliness. I would say the hardiest fish group would be triggers and damsels. I think a triggers could survive a cycle. I think I'm going to make a HUGE tank in shop my senior year. I'll make the tank, stand, overflow, and filter. My LFS said he could help me design it. TJ

Personally,I would go with something other than DAMSELS in the tank.Especially Dominoes. They are the worse of the worse as far as aggressive fish go. And if you ever decide to take them out,GOOD LUCK. They will try to dominate the tank and injure or kill any other fish you try to put in there.Well,almost any. The Chromis,on the other hand,would be fine.STEVE

With that size set-up you can do a lot ... as far fish go.
Whatever you decide to go with be sure you want to keep them for a while. With 200 lbs+ LR in an 8 footer, you may have to don your scuba gear to get any undesirables back out.
