As some of you may know i had some earlier posts regarding my two false percs fealing threatened to my newly added flame hawk and kept attacking it. So i got some advice from you guys, along with the LFS who gave me a kritter keeper (if you know that is) and to rearrange the rock work completely, then place the clowns in the kritter keeper in the tank and close the lights for the day untill tomorrow.......you guys think itll work?

Hello I think the idea is not that good. The clowns will calm down once they realize the angel is not a threat. I do not see the benefit of further stressing the clowns by keeping them in a critter keeper. the flame is qiute capable of protecting itself. Lights off yes. Critter keeper no. JMO

ight so your saying just rearranging the rock work and turning the lights off would do it? They've been attacking the hawk for about 4 days now. I feel bad for the little thing.

Hi No I would leave them in. Moving the rocks are a good idea. can you build the angel a rock refuge where it can defend itself? I did that when my powder was trying to kill a butterfly fish and it worked. i hope this helps.

ya i can but thats the thing i dont want it to HAVE to defend itself...i want the clowns to think they are in a diferent aquarium and not bother it. But ya it all helped thanks man

Would it do any good to possibly temporarily add another larger clown to set even more confusion? Or any other fish so it puts the weight off the hawk...or is that just a bad idea?

The third clown is overall a bad idea.
I'm worried you may just have a space issue and that it will not likely work out well long term, even if you resolve it short term. Are these the only fish?

no i have those and 1 sixline wrasse, 1 banggai cardinal and a bicolor blenny, +inverts
You really think this isnt going to work?

I feel it will not work. I had a sixline - and only a sixline - in a 45g because it was so agressive. So you have several territorial fish that will not like each other in that tank. And it is truthfully a very small tank all considering. IMO there is no way that 6 fish will coexist peacefully in such a small space.

well we will see cuz i used to have 7 actually and everything was totally fine for a while untill i got rid of 2 of them and got the hawk which they some how felt threatened by him for some reason.

Just how long did you have all those fish together? Years or months?
There is a philosophy that you can so overstock a tank that it basically forces a resolution to aggression. Fish are basically "packed in like sardines" and so their normal, natural and healthy behavior is supressed.
this is not, IMO, a recipe for long term success for years, because it is stressful, and stress ultimately results in disease. :(

My opinion is that you have to many territorial fish in way to small of a tank. The clowns are just more well behaved damsels, they are not going to give up any more space to this newcomer then they have given to the other five fish. The wrasse can be a very aggressive and territorial fish, the hawk can also be territorial (and he'll eat your shrimp too
)
I'd say you may have to get rid of several of your more aggressive tank members. Pick the one or two you really want and go from there, but in a 28 gallon tank you really can only put a few fish in there without problems occurring, and the current tank members are mostly all troublemakers to begin with. In a tank that size maybe your two clowns, the blenny and maybe one other fish is about all your probably going to be able to peaceful do.

ya ill take away fish one by one and see what the reactions still are. the cardinal ill have first to go. The wrasse will pretty much be impossible to catch...same with blenny
