burrowing snowflake eel?

I went to feed my eels today and my snowflake eel had burrowed in the sand with only his head protruding from the substrate. There is plent of rockwork present why would he be burrowing into the sand like that?

lol he didnt just do it once its where he stays. He has been there all day.

my sfe does almost the same thing by burrowing his head under then pops back out. but stays in the rock work mostly

There is really nothing so strange about a sfe that may burrow itself for it is a well known that many eels and fish as well that will burrow themselves for protection against predators as well as the predators that borrow themselves to snag unsuspecting preys.

Every time I clean my tank my 2 sfe's BUTTER and POPCORN will burrow new hole into the sand around the rock work.
