I'm sorry in advance if this is long. Without a bit of the history, it won't all make sense.
I have a trucking company. My customers, my drivers, my office. I do operate under the authority of a larger company who operates under the Mega Lord US1. I pay them a small percentage of all of my revenue and they provide cargo insurance, safety department, payroll processing, and invoicing the customers. I am responsible to input all my loads, pay my trucks, bill my customers, they just direct and process my work.
In our business, this is the best way to go. Anyone can get their authority, but if you are in the middle $ range, insurances alone eat you up so this is the best route.
Part of the perk of being with a company is that they offer you exclusivity within their organization. They will not bring another agent into your area. Because they are a part of US1, who observes the same practice, it does provide a bit of a shelter.
I was brought in being granted Tampa and Orlando and all the outlying areas. When I received notice that the NS was opening in Titusville, I reached out to our office and was granted this area as well.
When construction was finished, the Miami agent reached out to our corporate and told them I had cancer and that he and I were working on Titusville together. Using that foot in the door, he weasled in and started running the area. I reached out to corporate and got the pat on the head and the "I was being dramatic" move. Not long after that, this same agent starting pulling loads off of the CSX Orlando terminal, under my nose. Again, I approached corporate and was told I was overreacting, there had to be a good reason and ultimately, if a customer wanted him to pull their freight, there was nothing they could do. I kind of just moved on, although it has always chapped my butt. Only this year when I happened upon this customer were they amazed that I was still in business, he told them I was gone which is how he got their business. They are now doing business with me again.
Fast forward. This agent, who has a massive drug problem (known by our corporate amazingly enough) is getting more and more reckless. He went to one of our mutual customers told them that I had been kicked out of Tampa and he was the new agent. I found this out when the customer called me confused.
I called corporate, they pissed and moaned and wouldn't do anything. The customer has not given him any freight. He just recently went to the same customer soliciting freight in Orlando and was shut down again.
We have a mutual customer JB Hunt. I have 100% on time this year for them. When he started messing up so badly and making prima donna demands, they approached me to cover Titusville. Here we have the same scenario as before, the customer approached me, I did not approach them. The customer even went so far as to send an email to my corporate stating that it was his service failures that led to them reaching out to me because of my quality of service.
The owner called me and told me not to pull anything in Titusville. Keep in mind these are my customers, they came with me, they will leave with me. I wouldn't turn down these loads and cause service failures. I reached out to the owner that night and he didn't respond so I emailed him telling him that I pulled the loads and why.
Today, I get a rather short email telling me that I am not "allowed" to pull anything in Titusvulle again. He will keep Gilbert out of Orlando and Tampa and I will have to stay out of Miami and Titusville.
Keep in mind, the only reason I was there is because of his repeated screw ups. I was asked by the customer which they openly acknowledged.
Am I being overdramatic in that I am angry that over the years, and I just listed a few otherwise this would be a book, I have been walked on and my concerns have been shrugged off. Now that their darling is complaining, my actions are under a microscope?
I do not, nor have I back solicited, which is what he did.
I have another company I am switching over to. I just want to get other people's takes on whether or not I have reason to be upset. They have made out like I am an overdramatic female.
They are backing a drug addict who employs a driver who is his dealer who has been involved in three accidents where he was not immediately sent for a drug screen. He is currently pulling $4000 every Monday from corporate in advances that he pays no taxes on. He pays his office staff 1099's which is a no-no. He couldn't afford to keep up the payments on his vehicle, he approached one of my drivers to see if they knew anyone interested in "stealing it". He is a scum.
The upside, he makes me look like such a winner!
