I'm not new to the hobby, but I don't know as much as I should about button polyps (they were a gift) - so I've got some questions:
- Is there a difference between button polyps and zooanthids?
- Button polyps are filter feeders, like moderate light, and low current, correct?
- they are generally considered to be pretty hardy, right?
Ok, here's old pic I found of how they looked when I first got them... this is the best they've ever looked (click for bigger pic):
This is how they've been for the last 2 3 months or so. If you look close, you can see some anthelia in there too. I've seen amphipods crawling around the polyps, but I've never seen anything else... nothing that could be irritating them.
As you can see, they aren't happy. I've got them in the least amount of current I can (my Xenia used to be there, and it was just enough current to make them sway ever so slightly). they are under 250w MH 6500k. Water params are perfect, though salinity varies slightly with evaporation, anywhere from 1.023-1.026 over the course of a 4 days or so.
Thoughts?
If you think it is a lighting issue, I could move them to my other tank which is a 75g with 120w NO light (currently a FO). Or I may just trade them into my LFS before they die.
