I saw this thread and just had to come in. I generally don't order online. I have a few times for meds and water conditioners but never for fish and corals. I did order from here...swf...but had to cancel due to a family death and didn't feel up to notifying them afterwards to go ahead and send my order.
Anyway, I agree with the poster that said 6 to 1, half dozen of the other. You're live stuff could just as easily die from an online order as from a store. Prices in lfs maybe higher but I see that as no different then ordering one item $50 and paying $20 shipping and handling fee. It's cheaper when it come down to ordering in bulk.
From friends and acquaintences alike, I've heard good stories about online shopping and horror stories as well. So you're always taking chances but again that's the same as in the stores.
Now I have only two pet stores in town that sells saltwater fish, corals and live rocks. ***** and another mom and pop type store. I get my live rocks and corals from them and once or twice a fish. Most of my fish have been thru ***** stores.
My fear about ordering online is that you don't get to pick and choose what fish...or anything else....you buy. You get what you get. You may not like someone elses choice. So no matter who you order from, you have to keep that in mind. I wish you the best of luck in deciding what you want to do.
