LoL, I love it. But hey, that insured you got EXACTLY what you wanted - right?
My husband bought his house before I met him. He also thought he got exactly what he wanted. Then he met me and all of a sudden, he wanted the walls a new color, wanted tile and marble where there had been linoleum, wanted hardwoods where there had been carpet, oh and crown, he wanted crown and new toilets. AND a big ol shed.

The projects still on the list were... cabinets, countertops, and widening the driveway.
You wanna take a stab at who the "handyman" is??
You think you get what you want cause you pick from their 4 or 5 options. Then when you meet someone who does free labor, well, you got a whole new set of standards.

If we buy again, since we (I) change it all anyway, it'll be a fixer upper.

A nice layout is all I need. Anything cosmetic, I can do myself...
Just ask lovethesea! She seen it, lol

I am going to have to do some serious brain-picking around here after we move. ive got to remove wallpaper, replace AWEFUL ancient carpet (u know what multicolor brown/orange shag from the 70s? oh yeah. it's EVERYWHERE) with nice wood floors or tile, and paint my little butt off.
painting ive done before, removing carpet ive also done, but ive never laid a floor, and ive never had to remove wallpaper. well, it'll be an adventure.

Removing wallpaper is easy if you have patience. You buy a wallpaper remover and a scuffer. Apply the remover and you hafta wait til the paper is thoroughly soaked and it peels right off, very easy. Time consuming, but easy.
Removing carpet is easy, but strenuous. Especially if they squirted glue down and most do.

Those interlocking floors, if you can find a design you like are easiest. Not "easy" but easiest. Laying the floor is easy, getting it under the door trim and tight near the walls is tricky.
But I made a tool for the door trim thing, and if you want, I'll post a pic tomorrow. It's what the proffessionals use, but WAY smaller and cheaper.

Can you tell? I love this stuff.

Wait, is this on a concrete slab or does it have a crawl space?
Tizz...i have nooooo idea. LoL. The house USED to be a modular home - about 30years ago, but it was completely rebuilt. they also set 2 i-beams beneath it (yes, massive, red, steel i-beams), and built a basement beneath it that runs the entire length of the house. there are no crawlspaces that I know of...

...is it always this stressful???

selling is worse. my mom has had her house on market for 8 months, and she has only had 6 people interested. She is all over the internet with her house, and local real estate agencies. it just wont sell. Its a great house, he put a lot of work into it there (repainted everything, restored the wood flooring, recarpeted the carpet, and put in a lot of those home fashion things that most guys dont understand)

it's NOT a seller's market right now. Tell her not to take it personally, and that she's not alone. no one can sell. We know so many pple who can't get rid of their homes. it's becoming a major problem....The home we are buying was on the market for over a year, and we are getting it for nearly 100k less than the original asking price.

that would be the absolute best case scenario - but it's highly unlikely. in fact, we are pretty darn sure it's just plywood under there.

but...we'll find out for CERTAIN at the inspection. keep your fingers crossed!!

My house buying experience was not too bad. We talked about it for a few days and then goofing off one nice I said her look at this house. 3 lots 2 car garage and an added bonus it is saftely yellow. But really really cheap ( bank repo)
For some odd reason Butch like it alot and we went and looked at it a could hours later and bought it two days later. Cash on the spot ( never be able to do that again) Completely gutted and remodeled it and moved in about 2 months later.
MOved in one day also but that was a disaster.

Look at the important stuff...like where you are going to put your next big tank build and how it will look...make sure that where you will be putting your tank there will be nothing else to disturb it...and also make sure that the house you want won't make u down size in your tank

hey Tizzo - we inspected yesterday, and the current carpeted floors are on plywood. the original house was a modular home that they built onto and underneath - the basement is directly beneath the upstairs and was literally built like a bomb shelter using thick, heavy concrete and actual steel i-beams used in skyscrapers.
....maybe I can get my stone tile floors after all!!

...only thing is we have to put in a new staircase before we can move in. the one they have now is attached to an addition to the house and is kinda rickety and not to code.
The inspector told us putting in a new one won't be too big of a project, and he also said b/c of the location, contractors would be far less expensive than the ones we live near currently.
....good news, I guess!
