I was in Red Lobster this last weekend. I was thinking of it. I will not lie. I did know about how cold they like the water. Had no ideal it was 40*. That is really as far as it went. That is just to big. It would really do some damage IF you could keep it alive in a reef setting. O well, maybe I will take a coral banded shrimp and feed him mercial grow and see if he will grow haha JK

Not all lobster are cold water. In the fall I go down to Florida and catch then in the bahamas. Some get 3-4 feet long, and have the same temper as my 5 year old.
But I would not want one of those monsters in my reaf tank. I have a 110gal lobster tank of them. "bought it at a pet store going out of buisness and tried turning it to a reaf tank. It had too manny scratches so my wife let me get a 220gal and install it in the dinning room wall. Been trying to get Todd "Guy that built Franks 600gal tank stand" to build be a face plate for it but he's having back surgery at the moment.

Ya... I saw a lot of lobsters in Cozumel (ate a lot of them too...
) and the water was 84 degrees.
So I think water temp isn't near as big of an issue as lobster size and destructive power. Also, what kind of filtration system would you need on a tank for a lobster?
They live a long time and they can get huge...

red lobster actually uses the warm water lobsters, they import them from somewhere else and then sell them here, its a better deal for them because they dont have claws and you pay the same price.

I actually looked into it because my roommate wanted one in his 55 gallon, So we went to walmart ( have a buddy that takes care of the tank) And they have a massive chiller to keep the lobster's water cold enough for them not to want to eat, Because they don't want to feed them. needless to say my insane roommate tried it anyway, and well we ended up boiling a lobster that night. because he didn't like the 80 degree water comming from the 50 degree or so water.

The lobsters are kept at cold temps to help keep them longer. If one of them is weak or dies the others will actually eat him, in the tank, while your watching, with or without butter.... ***)
Anyway, if kept at warmer temps they would n't have the "shelf life" that they have at cold temps.

Umm... hope you are kidding... eating a dead lobster is a good way to get sick as I understand it.

ACTUALLY, if ya catch dead ones soon enough you can freeze them. Then they'll be good for a LONG time!!!
