Buying LR with Aitapsia

Should I buy this live rock that has Aitapsia all over it? The guy bought some Pepperment shrimp but they got eaten by the Lionfish. I could get about 75lb of liverock, maybe 100lb of live sand, hippo and two yellow tangs, volitan lionfish, dogface puff and two perc clowns, Odyssea 48 MH(though I got a Sunpod coming in) not to mention some equipment for $400. Is is worth it?

Put the rock in a quarantine tank until you can get rid of the aptasia. Maybe put a bunch of pep shrimp in with it.

Maybe take some boiling hot water, use a turkey baster and fry the little freaks with hot water and then QT for a longtime

Everyone gets aiptasia sooner or later anyway. Go for it. Since your LR is all out of the tank, drip some saturated kalkwasser onto each one you can see before you place it in the tank. They'll die almost instantly.
Fully saturated kalk, joes juice, peppermint shrimp (my preferred method), etc all work. You can also try Bhergia Nudibranchs (the lion probably won't eat those).
400 for all that stuff is totally worth it. You could even throw in some large angels (if your tank is large enough) or butterflys before you put in any corals. These fish will probably nip your aiptasias to death.

i personally have had great success with pepermint shrimp and long nose butterfly's. i once had my FOWLR covered in aptasia and they were gone in 3 weeks with the shrimp. also as mentioned, everyone will get aptasia at 1 time or another.

no way I would use the rock in my display. I have exactly one small atapsia stalk and have had it for some time with no mutliplying ect. Aptasia doesn't spread fast at all unless there's a problem in the system but its one problem I wouldn't knowingly take on when you dont have to. If it were so easy to get rid of why didn't he get rid of it before selling the rock? for $400 I would still buy the stuff. Perhaps use the rock in sump/fuge. The problem isn't getting rid of them its just if you dont have a prestine system (and it sounds like your going to start a new system) they will be back.

That's a lot of stuff for 400 buckaroos....I would buy it and keep what you want and sell or trade the rest. The MH light is almost worth the 400. couple more words....Joe's Juice....but you got to get all of them at once.

Nah... don't take it...
Now this 'guy'... can you give me some more specific information about him???

Yeah, take the deal. If you are nervous about the aiptasia, but it in a big rubbermaid thing for a while and zap what you can see with some kalk mix and if you want put some peppermint shrimps in the tubberware thing until they are gone.
Definitly take the deal though.

I'm still contemplating. I am starting a new tank. I also wanted fully cured LR but not rock with hair algae or aptasia. I'm basically buying his whole system, I didnt want the tank or stand but they were a $100 more. It has an unknown skimmer, bio ball filtration and a bunch of supplies. I just dont want those nussaince anemones running wild in my tank like they do in his. I'll keep ya posted.

The Odyssea isn't quite worth $400, they only cost $300 new. Not to mention his atinics aren't working for some reason or another. The lights would be just be extra in the package. I'm just trying tp justify the $400 if I broke everything down, though the fish are worth $200 themselves.

Take it all for $500 and hit the classifieds for what you dont want. The rock can be fixed (I sitll wouldn't use it but I'd sure fix it and sell it cheap).

Dude if you are that concerned about it you could sell me the rock for dirt cheap plus shipping. I'll put it into my FOWLR system, my Angel and Butterfly will make short work of them.
One other idea you could try... place them into a tank of water at 1.020 for a week or so. That will surely kill any aiptasia. The downside is that it'll also kill any neat hitchhikers (crabs, shrimp, sponges, corals, worms, etc). The bacterial bed should survive this.
