I didnt forget, yes I know they have merged, but there is a distinct difference in quality between a Mercedes Benz and a Mopar. Even the 300M dosent compair to an equally priced Mercedes, C, CL class.
When Diamler merged with Chrylser , Mopars customer base was rapidly expanding due to new and creative designs such as the PT Cruiser, Durango and the recently introduced new body styles for their trucks, i.e bold grills and fenders. No other American MFG could compair, (now the others US MFGs are playing catch up to Mopar). Mercedes Benz saw this as an express lane to a newly emerging customer base paved by Chrysler innovation. Chrysler had a new reputation for creative body styles, MB had a strong reputation for quality.
Because of this merger, MB sales have gone through the roof without any degredation in quality. It has remained unaffected by the merger and continues to this day. They have not adopted any mechanical changes or benifitted technologically from Mopar. Conversly Mopar quality remains unchanged as well. Bosch parts are still used in a Mercedes. The only similarity these two companies share is the name Diamler/Chrysler seperated by a / mark.
If you inspect both of them closely the vehicles differ significantly in quality. Especially the powerplant and brake systems. Apples and oranges straight across. To this day most folks dont purchase a Dodge as a replacemet vehicle for their Mercedes CL class.
