Buying "used" live rock question

I am going to set up a 120 within the next couple of weeks which is gonna be a pretty intense (for me) project. It is going to have a separate live rock tank, refuge, and sump. All four tanks are separate including the display. With obviously needing a ton of Live rock I wanna get it as cheap as possible. If I start buying used rock to use in the refuge and LR tank is there a way I can kill/clean any unwanted pests/algae without harming the beneficial stuff? Is there a dip or method I could use?
Is this not even a concern if I am not using this in the display? Display tank I will use quality LR, in the other tanks I just want it for water quality. Thanks in advance to any suggestions

You could also use base rock in everything but the display then.
I would even put base rock on the bottom of my display 'rock formation' and only put the premium live rock on top of it.
Would save lots of $

Yes, there is coral dips you can purchase, or you can use a high salinity water in a bucket. I would stay away from any liverock that was exposed to caulerpa, because that variety of algae are amazingly difficult to kill. One root will eventually turn into a ton of caulerpa in your aquarium, which would lead to having to find a creature to eat it.

Not a bad idea Speg. Would the base rock get seeded quickly or would it take a while? Also would this still work right away to create a good water quality? Maybe I will just do that. Load it up with base. Light or no light on the LR tank? Thoughts?

I didn't feel like it took overly long for mine to get seeded. The pics of my rock in my nano are rock that I used bleach on and were at one point 100% white and dead. If you don't mind taking a little more time then this is really the cheap way to go. Saltwater is about patience anyways right?
