Although I'm no expert, I'd personally go with cable. But that's mostly because I want internet for gaming too.
Irritatingly enough, I can't get any high speed internet where I am (even though a marina next door has T1). I'd like to get HD TV too but am willing to wait until I get it with an internet package.
I really want that internet too. I'd have some fun schoolin people online in PS3 games.
edit: just noticed you put "pros and cons" - The main thing I can think of would be the lack of programming interruption on a satellite system when the weather gets bad.

I would also go with Cable, typically their HD equipment is cheaper than the HD equipment from the satellite companies. If I wanted to get an HD DVR for my tv, it would cost me something like an extra $10/mo. If you are in an apartment or town home your unit may not be facing the correct direction for service. Cable never has a dish which looks better. Finally you can typically get good deals for bundling services from the cable company.

Get cable if you like to have your rates continuously raised ( i.e Comcast) Have had dish network for about 3 years, no problems to date.

I live in oklahoma where there is a lot of wind. A tornado went through, we didn't get hit, but the dish got messed up becuase of the wind.

I have cable and I am very dissatisfied with their HD listing, might have to try DirectTV.

Neither.

TV free for over 2 years now. No outside input whatsoever. We choose what comes into our home. We rent/buy movies and have playstation & game cube, but no cable, satellite or antenna. Our youngest daughter is at the top of her class in every subject as well as the top level among 2nd grade reading groups. She just tested and was accepted to participate in the GATE program. (Gifted And Talented Education)

We spent several hours together today as a family. We saw the new Pirates movie then went to the park.
We love being TV free. "Throw away your television. Take the noose off your ambition." (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
