calcium reactor

My friend and are are having a disagreement about a calcium reacter. I told him a reactor takes care of all levels.
All levels being trace elements, magnesium and calcium
He says a reactor only maintains calcium
Give me some good information to prove him wrong.
Thanks

A calcium reactor maintains the level of calcium and alkalinity within a reef aquarium. More importantly, a reactor maintains the proper balance of calcium TO alkalinity.
That's as much as I know. Ive been trying to decide if I can build one for a while now. I've decided no.

and to get the third side of the equation in balance, a kalk reactor is a great addition.
By using a kalk reactor and a calcium reactor in junction, your gonna have some happy corals.
are they needed for corals? no, i do just fine w/out either.
But as soon as my LED array is finshed, my next project will be a calcium reactor, and then a kalk reactor.

First I will say I have not used a calcium reactor.
Having said this I find it hard to believe this statement that it maintains the proper balance of calcium to alkalinity. It will add what it is able to dissolve and the chemistry will allow to stay dissolved. So when you get good at using it the chemistry should stay in balance much longer then any other way but you will sill need to tweek it some to keep all going right.

most people consider maintaining its optimal levels as balance. your correct however, it brings levels UP, not force them down.
Bannanna,
Thx on the scrubber ^_^ you hijacker you :)
