You wouldn't think so because its all the same water, but maybe because a fuge is more smaller and "confined"?? I am almost 2 weeks into my cycle and my Refugium has diatoms all thru it.... Sand Bed, Rock, sides of the walls. My DT only has a few small spots on the glass. I run an opposite lighting schedule between the two.
DT = 90 Gallons
Fuge = 10 Gallons
