Can a skimmer be too large?

I'm putting together my equipment list for a new setup 100gal + 20gal sump. I was looking at the AquaC EV-240 skimmer because people on this board seemed pleased with it, and I would have the option of adding an ozonizer later.
With that said the price difference between the AquaC EV-240 and the 400 is not much. The 400 is rated for 150-400gallons. Is there a potential harm in having a skimmer too large for a tank?
I don't plan on having corals but would like to keep that as an option later.

they say that a tremendous amount of skimming can pull trace elements from the water along with the bad stuff, but i don't think it's a large enough amount to worry.

yes, go with a skimmer rated for 2 x your water volume. they are grossly over rated.
