Can anybody recommend good products for bug bites?

Hello friends, just got back from south america today to visit the in-laws, there are these little black flying bugs similar but a little bigger than NO SEE UMS, definitely not mosquitos. ANYWAY they really bite and seem to come back stronger when you kill one. They leave a combination of like a flea bite mixed with a mosquito bite and itches like crazy... almost poison ivy like. Well anyway i have them all over my legs and arms. What do recommend for bug bites? Thanks friends!

Scratch them with a plastic comb first.

All very excellent ideas,, I have already put to bed the scratch em part, now i will resort to the cheese grater, sounds great thank-you!
