Can anyone explain this

About 2 months ago my veggie clip fell into my tank. I saw it on the bottom but was busy so i thought i would get it the next day. Well Next day comes around and i cant find the clip, after a little searching i find it back about 10inches from the glass underneath rocks and kinda wedged inbetween 2 rocks. I tried to get it out using a assortment of tools but to no avail, couldnt even touch it or nudge it. My tank is rather large so i just decided it would be a permanent fixture of the tank if someone would happen to see it back there or whatever.
Now I went out bought another clip and pretty much forgot about it until yesterday. I come home from work and do my usual check out the tank make sure everythings ok and i see something on top of some rocks. Its just barely visible, i get up close and look and its my veggie clip. Now i would think no big deal if it just moved along the sand bed a few feet but, this moved over to the right of the tank about 2 feet and up about 16 inches or so, not to mention all of the rock and things in the way for it to get in this spot.
How did this happen???
Things in the tank are:
Emp. Angel
BL.Naso Tang
Purp. Tang
Juvi Asfur Angel
Potters angel
sixline wrasse
Maroon Clown
2 psy. Manderin
3 fire shrimp
hermits
and 1
unidentified crab
My ideas are the maroon clown or the strange crab. I have seen the Clown move things before the only thing about this is the clip was not near her area so i dont know why she would put forth such a effort. The strange crab i only see from time to time and how would this thing move it to this spot and why. THe clip ended up not real close to the crabs lair. Just kinda strange didnt know if anyone had any ideas or similar experiences...

The crab is the most likely IMO to do this. Also, I know that mantis shrimp are known to construct burrows, and will move the stuff around to its liking. Try to oust the crab if you can, or get some plastic tongs and reclaim your veggie clip.

thats crazy. I hope u catch wat ever is moving stuff.
Run a video camera after the lights go out, either put night shot on the camera or use a red flashlight. Or just a night watch wit a red flashlght

i have gotten the veggie clip out it was right there for me to grab. IM almost positive i do not have a mantis shrimp.
I bought the tank from a guy in the military last june, he had it up and running for a year, the only other rock that i put in the tank was from my tank and my old tank was up for 2.5 yrs with no mantis. I mean its possible but, i dont think so.
Also there is no way the current could move it like that either.

Crabs would move it if they can. If it was attatched to the side of the tank then you have to look at your sweet little fish. Crabs cannot climb the glass. I wouldn't worry about a mantis, unless you have other live stock disappearing. They cannot climb glass either. One of your fish likes the clips a bit too much

^sepulation as always, at least IMO, is correct. I work at a fish store and one of the triggers we have there loves to pick up the veggie clips by the suction cup and lug it around the tank. Ive never seen a clip move in any other tank which leads me to believe it was a fish. granted you have no triggers, but I wouldnt put it by an angel or tang to do the same thing...

My fish drag clips around all the time. I don't bother sticking them to the glass anymore... I use rubber bands to attach them to rocks and retreive them with a long tongs.
It still doesn't stop them from dragging the clips here there and everywhere. I almost always have to hunt for them.

Dear hobbyist , in my 150 gallon aquarium ,I have 12 fish and 1 coral banded shrimp . Whenever I feed the tangs , I use a piece of lr and place seaweed secured by a rubber band, which is tied to fish line . This way I can retrieve the lr after the tangs have eaten by just pulling up the fish line . By the way,the fish in my aquarium that move objects are: the damsels, and wrasses .

well thanks for the replies, Not sure i accomplished anything but it gives me some more ideas. I think it was a fish, Prabably the Naso or Emp.Angel.

With the fish list you have, it must be a sizable tank... how about using some fishing line to tie the veggie clip to a center brace. That'll keep it from wondering off, and with it dangling in the tank, the fish inverts won't be able to drag it off???

I dont really have a problem with it staying on the glass. It fell off the one time and then the next day i could not reach it and then 2 months later its in a totally new location pretty far from where it was. Also it did not make its way there over the 2 month period it was over night. It was in the one location for a long time, i would check where it was from time to time because it was not a nemo clip it was a normal looking thing, i dont care for the nemo.
