can base rock be like fiji rock??

iam currently looking for some rocks for my 125 gal tank and i went to my local fish store and she said i could get fiji live rock for 5.00$ a pound i was like wtf when i was doing the math in my head cause in the end iam gonna need liek 250 lbs of live rock to complete my reef tank.I was looking for a cheaper alternative to fiji so my question is can base rock eventually look like fiji live rock????

Yup. You can just fill your tank with base rock and get a couple nice peices for fiji LR to seed the base rock. In a few months you won't be able to tell the difference.

I went to the local quarry and bought 50 lbs of cheese rock, nice holey stuff, cleaned it and let it soak real well in a large bucket with a amall amount of bleach, then clear water I changed several time and tool a hose to it, set it in the sun, and my rock looks great, only cost afew dollars. Heres a pic, can you tell it apart from the 100 lbs of LR? I can't


This is all cheese rock, starting to purple up nice.

Thats what i would do, you can get some that's not too terrible looking, but it will end up looking like everything else with time.
