I am selling my frags and one mother colony. The person who is comming for a mother colony just informed me he only has flourescent lighting. He is a noob and i dont want to discourage him from starting a reef but i also dont want my colony to die. I have a t5 fixture for sale as well but not sure he will want to upgrade yet or if it will even fit his tank.
When i bought my colts the guy had his lights off for about 2 months. They were pathetic looking but they came back with a vengance, so they are very hardy colonys. Should i suggest some oyster feast to supplement his lack of lighting? Or will it just not work?

I think it depends on what type of fluorescent lights. If they are Power Compacts and he keeps it mid way up then yes. I had a beautiful colt a long time ago under PC lighting. If its the lights that come with the tank then no I don't think it will support them. Who knows though! I may have had a coral that was a little tougher or used to poor lighting.

Normal output lighting, no. High output lighting yes. I'm guessing he probably just has the cheap lighting that will not support any marine animals that require lighting for sustenance.
