Can different kind of cardinals school together?

My dad is planning on getting some but our local pet store only has three banggai and two spotted. I don't know what is the minimal amount to buy for schooling fish (I know freshwater is at least 6). This is only for now since he is thinking about buying more.

Cardinals hang out together, but they don't really "school". They hide most of the time, and are very timid little fish.

I would not suggest mixing bangaii's and spotted pj cardinals. PJ cardinals are much more timid and tend to be bullied by bangaii's

I'd do pairs of two - and only different species if in a 180+g size tank.
