Ok.. well, i live in an apartment for now... This morning I was woken up by the ability not to breathe and burning eyes due to the jamaicans downstairs cooking chicken downstairs.. The only smell that penetrated the floor was that of STRONG onions.. burning eyes, couldnt breathe...
How bad is it that the fish also had to breathe this same oxygen?
and what can I do to help safeguard them?
I literally had to evacuate my home in order to breathe..thats how strong it was.. the fish dont have the same option...

your fish should be fine man.
As long as there is Oxygen adn those other happy molocules in the air, all is well. Smells arnt going to bother your fish much, unless they spend a lot of time at the surface of the water smelling the air....

The only thing that we were told that could harm a tank is Gas that run appliances. We had a gas leak for 2 1/2 hours due to a dryer being installed improperly. The next day a few of the fish did in fact die. When we called PG&E they advised us that it was probably due to the Gas Leak. Is this true?? I have no idea........but it was quite a coincidence!

even if it is strong enought that a human cant breathe, and burns your eyes? i sure hope you are right fraggle.. but the next time it happens i am making a complaint with the police.. maybe they can do something about the in-ability to breathe in your own dwelling.. i hope anyways.. i did have a few words with the lady and it didnt stink half as much in her apartment.. it has been 5 hours and my eyes still are burning, can breathe now though... it is winter, cant just open the door and let air in...

Any kind of oxygen deprevation will effect a tank. We usualy asphyxiate when gas leaks, the lack of oxygen isnt always knoticible unnfortunatly.
If you have a problem breathing. Its possibly safe to say that the lack of oxygen could effect the levels in the tank. In some cases, the 'bubbles' in the tank can be replaced by toxic gasses if the oxygen levels are low enough. If you have to evacuate your property for a few hours you can bet your livestock might be in some danger.

If you cant breath due to lack of Oxygen, then yes the fishies could be in perril. If you cant breath because you cant stand the smell, then the fishies are probably okay.
your pobably fine if you just crack the windows and let the room air out.
