i have 2 fuzzys 1.5" and .75", which are being fed LIVE gut loaded shrimp. Both eat so much that they get oddly shaped bellys and have shrimp antenie (sp?) sticking out of there mouths, prety much 24/7.
Both have grown significantly in a month.
Are there any dangers to this?
the shrimp are added to the q-tank which the lions are in 2-4 per day, from a seperate holding tank. About 2-4 remain, at the end of day. Oddly the orifinal surplus, regarlesss of size.

Sounds like you are overfeeding. I had a Volitans lion that would get a meal like that 2-3 times per week and he was perfectly healthy until my humu humu decided it was time for him to go and he tore him up.

Yup. In the wild these fish go days even weeks with out food. so if your feeding once a day large portions be aware that lion fish over eat for that reason and have been known to choke to death, but more so due to the feeding of gold fish. But none the less still a good conern.

best piece of advice i found to be true with all lions. Keep them hungry, keep them happy. They won't stop eating. You can kill them with kindness.

Very good advice has been given....

You can definatley over feed them for sure. I did this with my new fuzzy and it took a few days for that huge belly to go down so every second day or everday with only a small amount is great.

So even live food, will over feed them?
The shrimp are caught 10' from where i found both lions.
right now my problem is the larger one will eat the smaller shrimp first. leaving nothing for the smaller fish to eat.
my soulution had been to over feed him so the little guy has something to eat.
for the last week i found a second soulution...
Its kinda cruel but it works:
I injure a large shrimp that is big enough to be a compleate meal for the big guy.. When he gets gulped i then add the little shrimp. This works fine as long as the first shrimp was big enough to keep him busy.
If left healthy the large shrimp may never be caught, or take hours.. time i dont have
As soon as there out of the q tank they'll be in seperate tanks.

Why don't you just hand feed the lions? This would eleviate the problems of the little guy not getting food.
I hand feed my fuzzy every time I feed. This is the only way she gets her food over the batfish and squirrelfish.

Are you feeding your lions daily?
If you are feeding them daily cut back to every other day, It sounds like they are getting large meals daily right now. If you are trying to switch them to frozen food, do not feed for a few days (they will not starve), try some frozen, if they do not eat it, than feed them live shrimp. As your lions mature they can be fed a few small chunks throughout the day but every 2-3 days.
Have you tried frozen foods with these dwarfs yet?
Try getting them switched over before they go in your main tanks, you can try frozen Shrimp chunks, Frozen Krill, Frozen Sand Eels or silversides. Place they food on a feeder stick to feed.
I agree with lion, if I did not feed my fuzzy from a stick he would never eat, he is so slow when it comes to food and is unable to compete with my other fish.

WITH tongs, or a feeding stick, of course.
