a lot of the time they can because as you mentioned, they are in the same family. however, it sometimes depends entirely on the agressiveness of the coral itself.

like i said it soemtimes depends, only way to find out is to try it. if one is extracted or looks bad, move them.
Genus Euphyllia. Most can touch and not seem to bother one another but in the long term, IMO, not a good idea because they can begin to war if felt threatened by another such as blocking light or not being allowed to open fully, ect. Best to have room between them so as to let them fully open and grow.
well there are two types of hammers, there are branching hammers, then just a normal hammer. if there are two heads, then it is probably a branching hammer, in which case, yes, they will split and create more.
i can put all my hammers together, but they all came from the same original frag. however, any other coral that even toucches it gets stung like crazy. i had a xenia that got knocked over onto it for a like a day before i noticed and it didnt make it. But if you get them in time they can heal pretty quickly
