It is fine to add additional live rock after your tank is running. Just not too much all at once, and make sure you used cured live rock, or cure it yourself. This will produce less dyoff.

you can add more liverock at a little bit at a time that is fully cured or you can puy it not cured and cure it your self be for you add it to your tank.

How much lr do you currently have? If you have a lot, like 60 or 70 lbs then you should be ok adding 20lbs cured at once. All depends on what you already have to carry the bio-load. I usually add 5 -10 lbs at a time in my 55 which started out with about 40 lbs. I bought some from friend moving and added around 40 lbs cured at one time and it was fine, but it went straight from one established tank to another. HTH

u should just buy lots of live rock, then stick it in ur quarantine or refugium if its not being used, that way u can cure it urself. jsut make sure u do a water change on the qquarantine after.

also i just add a few pounds at a time to my 55, and it seems to be fine. i just go to a lot of pet stores, to buy fish usually or just to look, and end up seeing like a pound or 2 of cool rock that i want, and the guy at one pet store just gave me like 4 pounds for 4 bucks, good deal. u should consider getting lr from some reliable pet stores, well thats wat i do an my tanks fine!;)

I agree with the others....It depends on what is already in the tank. I personaly cure my rock in my main tank. or fuge which is connected to main tank but I have a lot of rock and only buy one piece every now and then if I really see something different. As for starting a new tank then I would order from swf and get a good price on quanity then hand pick the top off pieces from local sources.. Not because they would be better but when topping off size and shape are more important than when getting base rock. When cureing small quanties of rock in main tank I am looking for good and bad hitchhikers.....mainly bad so I can get them out. The good pods ect I keep...have gotten some neat stuff that way.

thanks for a your reply, but are you saying its ok to get a piece of rock in a established tank. sometimes the store has a nice piece of mushroom on it with some other goodies . thats ok but you know the stuff in the lower tank that they sell for like 4/5 $ lbs, I guess thats uncured, when I first set up my tank I bought 70 lbs that had all kinds of stuff , but it could of been better,
thanks
