I am planning on buying about 10 frozen clams from bloom and I heard that you can put them in room temp. saltwatwater and they will come out of hybernation because they are frozen. When they are out of it and thawed, I want to resell them at my LFS for more money.

I don't quite understand. What are you hoping the dead clams are going to do for you and do you really think your LFS would want to buy dead clams off you?

Lol I dont get the point. Tryign to turn in dead animals to the LFS for credit? Thinking that because clams are usually closed, they wont notice? LFS's take down your phone number and stuff, well mine does, so thatd be an epic fail.

i don't think hes talking about actual dead frozen clams... probably the live ones that they sell fresh that you can take home, burp and put into the tank. standard cleaner clams. i wouldn't advise this either though.

I also have a few quastions about "Burping" a clam
How long does it take?
If the shell is already open in the store is it dead?

The clams at the store that they sell as food on ice are not dead. They are dormant. Yes you put them in room temp water so they can burp. You can add them to your tank as food for puffers, eels, etc. They also help reduction of nitrates if they manage to burrow into your sand. The aren't like the clams that you see as decoration in most SW fish tanks. I don't know if the fish stores would be willing to take them or not but it couldn't hurt to ask. You can also keep them in your tank if they don't get eaten. You should never buy clams like that if they are partially open. This means they are dead so it also means that they shouldn't be eaten. Hope this helps. There are several threads on here about "burping" them.

I think the issue is that these clams are often coldwater
clams, they may live for a short period in our tanks but will eventually die and foul the water.

Little neck clams is what most places sell.. My puffer LOVES them but thats about all they are good for.. I highly doubt a LFS would take them. Hate to burst your bubble here but I dont even think I have seen "cleaner clams" at my LFS... Only seen them on ice waiting to be eaten at the store. They do die quickly as stated above..

Our puffer wouldn't touch them. I think we got him 4 of them. First one died around 6 months after adding them. Last one died at around 9 months.

They are coldwater and they won't live for an extremely long time but they are good for getting finicky fish to eat and they are beneficial for your tank. Better if you have a colder tank. You could always ask the LFS if they are interested.

I'm sure the LFS owner is aware that the grocery store sells seafood. IMO they will laugh when you ask them.
