is the fish suffering from an external parasite? yes, you should be able to dip a goby, but i haven't seen many gobies contract ich. most don't even ship gobies in the methylene blue. or are you doing this as a precaution before introducing the goby to the display.
by the way, saltnoob, methylene blue is cyclic C16H18CIN3S. it is used to treat parasitic infections on fish. it is the blue in the shipping bag water you see tangs or angels in.

My QT tank has a bacteria so I just received these two fish - a blue tang and the goby so I'm doing it as a preventive measure since my QT is "down". It just happened so I had to scramble...and they will have to go into the DT.

i agree with your decision. just make sure the pH and temp are the same from where the fish are to where you are going to dip them. the easiest way, imo, would be to drip aclimate them from the display tank water, then buffer and raise the temp of the fresh water they will be dipped in. once the fish are drip aclimated to the display tank conditions, dip them in the fresh water for about 10 minutes, then go directly into the display so they don't contact the shipping bag water again. good luck.

All went well - I only did it for 5 minutes...my diamond goby jumped completely out of the bowl and started flopping on the counter....
They are in the DT tank now and looking great. I'm so nervous - hope they are "clean" now!
