i have been looking at a blue dot ray.
i an not sure if i can have him.
i have a 225 gallon ,i know meowser has hers in the same size i do .
problems i might have are ,the tank is being coppered now i do plan to use carbon to remove the cupramine .i think ray dont like copper.but will he be ok once the stuff is removed in a couple monthe?
also have a goldflake angel,i have read they wont get along.will the angel go at the ray or the other way around?
i am planning a huge tank in about 18-24 months 500 gallons or bigger.
what do you think?i was going to put my puffer in there but read they will nip at thier tail is this true?
right now there is only 1 inch of sand but i have 100 lbs more to add if needed.

Since you put copper in your tank...IDK that much about it....if you are worried about it...why not wait for your new tank?
Is this ray going to go into the 500G? If so.....I'd wait and set that tank up around the ray

I agree with mah girl meow on this. AND it kinda makes sense to wait until you have the 500g set up so you can plan it out better and if you want, have the ray as your centerpiece. Would be a pain to go through getting one now only to move it later.

Truly, and I'm not trying to be a jerk, there is no part of your scenario that is likely to allow a blue dot ray to remain healthy. Forget about tank size, as yours would be ok for a while... but you should never add a ray to a tank that has had copper in it. You may want to drain it, dry the sand and start over for a ray. Secondly, both puffers and angels are notorious for nipping at and killing rays.
You don't add a ray to your tank and hope it works... especially a blue dot.... you have to really design the system around your ray. Good luck.

That is why I suggested he wait for the 500...and set it up specifically for the ray.

I completely agree. If you want the ray, the tank and all inhabitants must be selected based on keeping the ray. Many people do not have the patience to select fish, in particular, that would work with the ray. They have a big tank, and want nice big...often aggressive...fish.

ok thanks ,
i am sure i will still have the angel and puffer when i get the bigger tank so unless i keep the 225 going i will pass on him.
i am not going to just put a ray in a tank and hope for the best.
