For me I would love to be able keep native sharks - which for me means sharks from the Atlantic coast. But the Atlantic species - most of which are requiems which tend to be only suited for suited for aquariums with foot prints the size of small public aquariums. The only common benthic (bottom-dwelling) species - The Nurse Shark grows to monsterous size averaging about 8-10', and also needs a tank that has the footprint of small public aquarium.
So for the time being this dream - will remain just a dream.
But I still think it wise not to just jump in and do something just because you can. Especially with keeping sharks - that's a decision that need to be researched & planned brfore you even take the 1st step. And see what is practical for you to do.
dont forget smoothounds there the bomb.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think about the only shark you could have in a 30 would be this one... Perfect for your tank! (if you don't mind switching to freshwater ;) )

What about keeping on of the little lobsters, do any of them stay small enough? They're pretty cool looking.

Yeah Smoothhounds - need at least 2,000-3,000 gallons - minimum.

most shark eggs do not hatch, and live in private tanks in the home. Many reasons are held for this, but it comes down to 70% or so do not live past the first month. spend more to buy one that was at a LFS shows good signs of eating, good color and appears to be in good health. but IMO NO bambo, cat or other shark in that family that you may see in the trade should even go in a tank that is not in the 300gal or above. Yes I have seen them in 150's but it is not just the room they need to move it is the waste these large sharks give off and a sump of 150 if one were even going against the rule and put a shark in a 150. I could go on but just read this post and I call it a day.
