my question is that i would like to buy some live rock from a lady and it has some groth on it and put it in my tank. can i do that without having to scrap all the growth off and cure it or will i have to scrap cure and then add my fish back in. i plan on putting my fish in my biocube for a few days befor i introduce them into the LR setup. so my questions again are:
can i just take the live rock and put it in my tank without any problems?
could i just keep my fish in there or should i move them out
if i do take the fish out how long will i have to wait before i put them back in?
thanks for any help i know i have alot of questions. i just dont want to kill any of my fish in this process.

i picked some up some LR from a friend of mine about 10 miles down the road. it took probably a hour and a half to pull it all out, drive it to my house, and put it in the water. i did put mine directly in my display, and i had no issues what so ever. but its all in how long the rock is out of the water. the benefit of the rock in your tank is the bacteria it developes, but that bacteria will die off with the rock out of the water
ideally, you want to put the rock into a seperate tank with a heater and a pump for a week or 2. thats the only way to be sure its safe for your tank.

you can absolutly do that. you dont have to worry about curing the rock.
but save your back some lugging and use news paper wrapped around each rock and wet it with tank water. it'll make lugging a lot easier if your moving a lot of rock. if its only a coupkle buckets by all means fill the buckets with water.

If you're worried about crashing your main tank, then you could "cure" the rock in buckets with heaters for a day or two and monitor just to be sure there is no ammonia spike

its like 4 med sized peices so its only gonna b like 3g in each bucket + the lock. i wont have to worry bout my fish being in the tank will i? cuz i was thinking of moving them to the QT for a day or 2 maybe leave my damsel in there.

Just do what reefkprz said. They can be out of the water......just make sure they don't dry out.
Wear gloves, those bristleworms sure hurt. I learned that lesson the hard way one night and spent 30 minutes using a tweezer to get those things out of my finger. Been 4 weeks and still hasn't healed.

do you think it could crash my tank? cuz i really dont know alot about this lr as far as just moving it w/out a cure. if a few ppl say it can be done then i will do it w/out curing but right now im no the fence as far as what to do.
thank for all the help

no, ull be fine. the reason it CAN cause a crash it if it stays out of the water so long, it starts drying up and the bacteria all over it dies. then once back in water, it leaks out causing ammonia spike. but for such a short distance, the rocks wont dry and the bacteria should make it.

you should be fine, the rock just needs to stay moist to prevent dieoff. i wouldnt move yor fish either, it stresses them to be caught and moved then moved back in a few days. just get the rock and toss it in ur tank

ok so you say just leave them. i think i could do that i just dont want to lose them but most ppl are saying its fine. so i guess i will make that desision when i see how long the rock is out of the water tomorrow. most likly i will leave them in then
