I just bought eggcrate for the top of my tank and i was wondering if i could spray paint it black?? I really don't like the white, and the silver coating they got looks like it would come off.
Painting it black wouldn't really affect my light much right?? I have a single daylight tube.
One more thing....is it okay for me to place my lighting fixture directly on top of the eggcrate as long as it's not affecting my temperature too much??
thanks

that's what i figured, just like the silver one's in the store..
i have the stock bulb...it's a daylight flourecent tube, 36". i'm gonna get a 50/50 soon though. it's a FOWLR so i don't have anything too intense.
would i be alright placing it directly on top of the eggcrate??

If its only like a 24-36 watt fixture it would be fine as long as its not resting its weight on the egg crate.

yeah it wont cause heat issues with the eggcrate it just wont hold a lot of weight so as long as the weight is on the tank rim and not the eggcrate itself youll be alright.

I havent tried it, but I wonder if that Krylon Fusion spray paint would work? Thats the stuff that is made for plastic and supposedly bonds to the plastic in ways that regular paint can not.

its actually the light exposure that damages the paint weakening the bond more than the heat from the lights. high temp metal paint wont bond for crap to plastic.

The only diffusers my Lowes has are the solid thin sheet kind.

Yea, mine only had that too in the lighting section... try checking in the ceiling spot....the place where they got all the tiles and stuff, they actually call it eggcrate over there, not light diffuser.

on the same page.
hacks....J/K..........but good primer and UV protected paint should do fine.
I however do agree that painting the egg crate is a bad idea.
