I had a deep sand bed in my refugium and I just pulled about 15 lbs of sand out of it. seems like a shame to waste it but i dont want to put anything into my tank that doesnt belong. I have calurpa in the refug but i have gone through the sand and made sure that their was no pods in it. What do you guys think? Probably a bad idea right?

The top 1/2" of a DSB can be beneficial. If you mixed it all together then I would not use it but if you scrape off the top 1/2" you can use in in a DT or share with a friend.

Just the top 1/2? I am not really worried abut the beneficial aspect of it so much as the filling out my sand bed but not giving my tank some kind of nasty algae infection. I could still use about 25 lbs of sand in the display that 15 lbs would save be a a few bucks but like I said my concern would be putting some kind of sumpfungus into my display. is that a legitimate fear or am i being over cautious?

if you just want to add it to the dt.i would wash it and use it.just put it in a bucket.fill the bucket with water .tap wat is fine.stir it up ,let it settle for 10 seconds then pour out the dirty water.repeat untill the water is clear.i have done this plenty of times

How long has this tank been up? If it's relatively new I don't see any problem with it. Not sure on the exact time frame, however, if you would consider it an "established" tank I would not use it. However, like deejeff said you could wash it. I would think you will probably have a mini cycle in an established tank.
