Can I use a regular wavemaker with a hydor koralia?

Can I use a Natural wave timer (like used with maxi-jets), or the Ocean pulse wavemaker or Wavemaster Pro etc. or do I have to use Hydors new wavemaker?

No. The nature of propeller based powerheads makes them unsuitable for wavemakers. You will wreck the powerheads in a very short time.

the deal with the new korlia and seio wavemakers is that they never actually shut the ph off, they just ramp them down to 20%-30% power so the impeller never gets a chance to end up reverse rotating.
although other units like the redsea pro will soft start your ph, they shut them fully off when they're not on cycle which will eventually kill the motor. i have heard that using a wavemaker and a modded maxi-jet will be ok.

I have seen one in person with 4 of the #4's and it was really loud. Clicked everytime they kicked on. Only on the setup for a month, so no damage was done to the power heads. Annoying trying to relax and watch it.

Even the new Hydor koralias made to be run with their new wavemakers?
They use special wavemakers that work differently than ordinary ones.
With propeller powerheads, it's not the powerheads that have to be special, it's the wavemaker.

I saw a mod for the Korialis powerheads using silicone fuel tubing on the shaft can't remember for sure what it was supposed to do but there were several people that said it worked. May be worth a shot.

sounds like that would be to keep it from reverse rotating.
