I have the tank for around half a year and I feel to buy the filter cart is too expensive if I change every month. Now I am considering about use the filter bag. Is it OK for the biocube tank? What chemicals should be included in the filter bag to make it working effective? How long to change the chemicals in the bag? And where to place it?
Thanks very much.

Those cartridges are like $7 for a 2-pack. So, that is like spending $3-4 a month. That isn't expensive at all.
However, you can rip out all the workings of one of the biocube cartridges, go out and buy a large pad of floss(they have activated carbon, phosphate reducing floss, ammonia reducing floss, etc...)and put it in the holes of the cartridge. That is cheaper but it doesn't do as good of a job as the biocube filters. I would recommend doing that if you are sad to spend $3 a month and also purchase Purigen and Chemipure Elite. Look into those as well.
I just can't believe someone is complaining about $3 when salt water fish is one of the most expensive hobbies to have!

We have the same exact tank. We don't use the filter cartridge at all. Just placed in 1 bag of Chemi-Pure Elite with a filter pad over it. You can buy a huge bag of that stuff and just cut it to the size you need.

I was thinking the same thing. I was doing this (dont know if its cheaper):

but I got to lazy to keep cutting them so now I'm back to the factory cartridge with a media bag of GFO behind it.

We don't use the cartridge at all, just lay some filter pad on top of the carbon media. The filter cartridge, bio balls, etc is really meant from a fresh water tank setup.

the filter cartridge IS just some carbon behind a filter pad, its meant for ALL aquaria and is basically the same thing you described as using. the bioballs are for freshwater AND fish only systems like all bioballs.

Right, but if someone is complaining about price, a bag of media and a little filter foam goes a much longer way. The filter cartridge is also not all that think and in the long run doesn't do that great of a job.
