Can I Use Play Sand For My Tank

Not sure about the play sand but live sand can run from 23.00 to 30.00 dollars per 20 pound bag. Depending on the type you get.

You can use southdown sand. I don't know much about it because I don't use it, but you can do a search on here for it and find lots of info.

I used play sand for my 55 fresh water tank, Some people say it will cause algea problems but I never had problems or any sort of algea, I wouldn't go that route if I was setting up a SW tank, Only because of the cost of SW stuff vs fresh water.
My play ground sand cost me 4 bucks for a 40lb bag, It does take a while to get it clean though,

I used Southdown sand in my 92 gallon. No problems. Tank is over a year old and sand has no doubt become live. From what i have read and heard to save some money use Southdown and just a few pounds of LS to seed. Works great.
