Can ich come and go in 1 day

Ok I am very puzzled about my firefish. The other day when my tank lights came on my firefish came out of his little spot completely covered in what looked like ich. He was darting around scratching up aganst rocks etc. I immediately started setting up my QT tank but I stopped when I realized that there was no way I was going to be able to catch that fish without tearing down the whole tank. so for some reason I decided to give it a day to see what was going to happen(plus I had to go to work and I diden't have time to tear the tank dowm and catch him) so I fed my tank and went to work
The next day when the lights came on out comes my firefish looking as good and healthy as ever no signs of ich anywhere. That was about a week ago and there are still no signs of any Ich on either of my fish.
How did the ich come and go so quick?
I do have a cleaner shrimp but the firefish wont let him anywhere close to him. could the cleaner have snuck up on the firefish at night and cleaned him?
also what could have caused the ich? I know that it is usually caused by stress and I did add 2 sexy shrimp the day before the ich showed up. could that addition have been enough to stress the firefish? I dont see how.
anyway Beth I would love to hear any comment you may have on this

This is typical ich behavior. Are you going to treat the condition?
Ich is introduced into the tank by infected fish. It is not caused by stressed. Take a look at the FAQ Thread at the top of this forum, and read the post there on ich.

this fish has been in my tank for almost a year with no new fish added in the last several months and Ive read the ich faq thread several times. no I dont plan on treating unless I see it again

there used to be a post on here about the life cycle of ich. Very helpfull when I had to treat it. I did a hypo salinity in a QT. Worked flawlessly
