can live rock die

in my 125 gal. I have about 30 lb. of lr..(been reading that is not enough)it has never shown signs of life,(sponges,mini feather duster,ect..)is it dead .I plan on getting more soon, if they were dead do they become live again ? should I have 1 lb of lr to 1 gal. water. thanks

you may not see any creatures such as sponges por feather dusters but most likly it has micro scopic organisms living in it that carry out the purpose of the lr.

I to have many fish with 160 lbs or live rock in my 135 gal tank.The fish especially Coral Beauty and Flame Angel keep the rocks clean except some algae and Coraline Algae.The rock still has the Nitrobacter and the Nitrosomas for the Nitrogen Cycle.It may get set back by some water treatments but comes back again after treatment.Hard to kill because there is always organisms living deep to replenish.So don't worry about visible critters.It is the ones you can't see that are doing the job.Hard to kill LR.Believe me I have tried. :rolleyes:

you are right .... you need more live rock!!! about 2lbs per gallon.... and yes you will get some "die off" from lack of light.... good luck!!!!
