Can N.O. bulbs go bad?

I have had a time with diatoms and a small patch of cyano I can't get rid of. I have done anything different in the past six months or so. I was thinking it could be my bulb. It it almost a year old.

all bulbs should be replaced at regular intervals because the spectrum does shift with age. i beleive most people change their vho bulbs every 6-8 months and n.o. should fall somewhere in there if not sooner.
also do you have a phosphate test kit make sure thats not your problem. what kind of water do you use for your tank?

Rodi from lfs and distilled from Wally world. I'll rep[lace my bulbs. I was thinking that the cooler bulbs would last longer than they did ..but alot of bad things happen when I start thinking. Thanks bud
