Hey, the question is actually not what is coral more as why is water chemistry so important and how do you tell which factor which from which. And how do you change the water chemistry? Lastlly Please add a brief defanition of the main factors that keep corals alive(Ph, calcium, etc)

You need to buy a good book for all that. The simple reason you need everything just so for coral is that the ocean changes very little and the critters of the sea have never learned to adapt to change. So to keep these weird strange creatures alive we must make sure our tank adapts to them.
By making sure our tank is as close to ocean parameters as we can get, we can keep our creatures alive. In the beginning keeping a reef tank was very hard and most creatures didn’t last a month. Once it was learned to copy the oceans natural contents and balance of chemicals including the water current the success was amazing and the hobby has flourished.

Florida Joe uses BIG words, I need a dictionary when I read anything he posts.
Spanko is really helpful and he knows where to go for info.

actually there are a number of great people on here. flower, cranberry, meowzer, sr, csi.net, bang guy. and the list goes on and on and on. my favorite forum for saltwater hands down. Some of you may hate me for this but I don't own any saltwater books. Although I have read one at the library but I find your insight much better in most cases

I am going to let you in on a little secret. When you talk to a teacher or anyone with any knowledge on any subject, you can only glean a tiny drop of information from all their wisdom. You only get a tiny bit as you talk to them, while you can get the full thought from a book and know as much as they do.
Without a book you don’t even know what questions to even ask. Worse yet, you may not think to ask the question until disaster hits.
So only reading a book once at a library on saltwater aquariums, unless you’re a genius and have photographic recall, is not a by any stretch of the imagination, a smart thing to do. Please get yourself a good aquarium book to reference and read it over and over until its imbedded in your memory. What if something happens and your computer is down? Nothing beats a book.
