K, I do have all the pics organized on my harddrive... I'm just talking design.
I forgot about the page being way too big. What is the "biggest" a page should be?

it will likely work better as something where you can drill down to the specific item you are looking for, by a variety of different search characteristics, such as color, body, shape, etc. each of these characteristics become a searchable field in a database that you will have to add to.
That sounds great but SO out of my league.

basically as small as possible.
so you ideally would want to show a list, that can be shrunken down with search terms, and then when one is selected you show that item's page with detail and picture. something like that.
i am not a pro at web-design but i spoke to some co-workers and they said your best bet is to find out what kind of server you will be hosting the site on linux / windows? (php / asp ) then you can do a search for a free downloadable picture gallery software...
might even to get a flash one for you.

When we sit down to discuss how we are going to organize the data. We bust out a whiteboard. And start by listing all the "goals" that we want to achieve. Then turn around and decide how they correlated. Then draw a map on how to get to the data, then turn it into a access database. And mirror it with the file location hierarchy.

.

Could you explain that a little more?
My original goal was a pictorial ID guide... that they could scan through pics and see if they can find what they have. Some people's perceptions of what they think they have verses what they really have are way off.... and could go searching in the worm category when they are looking for a snail....
Something you can scan through and hit the brakes when something looks familiar.
Any ideas if this can be done?
I save all my files to shtml... does that help identify the server.

Go to photobucket, do a search on fish or something, follow the link into someones site. and see how they are organized.

I never thought of that and I've been searching the web for months.

From there, look for a web template that comes close to matching, then find someone willing to let you stand over their sholder and let them finish it off.
