I know that you can pair up a male and female green mandarin, and a male and female spotted, but can you pair a male green mandarin with a female spotted mandarin, and vice versa, because that would rock!

I am sure you can put them together, but can you mate them, i think that is the initial question, and if you can mate them, what kind of insane color patterns do you think you would see?

IF youm did see one it would make a stoned hippie go "Man im high!" LOL I no not to put 2 males in, i no I can pair up green mandarin male and female, and I know I can pair up spotted male and female, but can you do the same for a spotted with a green. See this Idea came ferom the fact that you can breed diff species of clownfish, and get the insanities. If we could do this, and raise the young, this hobby would pay for itself!! Jk, it would just be awesome to see in ur tank, sort of spots with swirls of green and orange around them AWESOME!

Im not aware of any tank bred mandarinfish, they are pelagic spawners. Never heard of any hybrids either........If you think your skills are good enough, you could be the first...

I meant he selling piece as a joke, however, many people on here have their mandarins spawning, though the fry dont last very long, however when college comes around in a couple of years I may make that a study for myself. I plan on a career in marine Bio. It was just a thought. They are in the same genus like clownfish and many fish make hybrids. It would be interesting.

I have never heard of mating spotted and green mandarins.
Also, I don't believe that they have been able raise any offspring of mandarins yet.
One day all fish will be tank bred, and all coral will be aquacultured. One day.......

I have an older book that tells you how to breed mandarins. Listed them with Pajama Cardinals and Neon Gobies as easily breedable. It's one of those generic books that they have at any petstore on every pet you can buy. I'll post it when I get home if anyone is interested.

I know about the raising, part, that its never been done, but mandarins do spawn, I need to RESEARCH and see if I can find any crossbreed pairs. Any yes TXReef when that day comes, this hobby will have reached its final goal. To bring the reef to the home without taking the reef. My LFS I am very proud of. they saquaculture almost all their corals, and when they get something new, they add it to the mother stock to frag some more.

Mandarins have been bred in captivity but I doubt that different species will crossbreed.
