Can This be Done

:notsure: I am researching lighting for a 125 gal that i want to start after our new house is built. I have a Satelitte compact 4x65 that is 48 inch long. Can i take that apart, and mount it in the canopy for a 125. I am also going to mount a 175or 250 MH in the middle. so it would be 24 in power compact, mh then 24 in PC. I know the outer ends would have less light, but i am not planning on keeping any hard corals, just maybe a clam.

That probably wouldn't work very well. You are going to want more light. Probably 2 or 3 MH. It's possible you can use your PC to run actinics, but if it's a prebuilt light you may not be able to take it apart. Just keep two tanks!

Clams need metal halide or they will die, guaranteed.

Not from what I have read. Some can be kept under lesser lights. The main thing is water quality. Check out Reef Invertebrates by Calfo and Fenner
I personally know someone that has multiple T. maxima
under VHOs and they are doing well and growing.

yep i have that book and it is very possible if your tank is short enough. like vho and powercompacts have held stuff like that and it thrive
