sand would have the same pollutants as the water, if not more because of anything that would have settled on the bottom
when i was in japan some guy in the barraks got a fish tank and took water right from the ocean cause it was right on the beach he had a bunch of stuff in there he caught with a net out there too i was pretty surprised but it did work he had a buch of stuff in there
