Can you add sand to CC?

Ok everyone keeps touting the benefit of LS instead of CC. I am not going to switch over right away, but I want to know - can you mix the two? Like, if you tube in some LS on top of the CC is that of any benefit at all? Or is complete replacement the only good option?

If you mix, the sand will settle to the bottom and the cc will still be on top catching detrius and turning green.

I'm in the process of scooping out my CC. I put in 10lbs and topped it w/20 lbs live sand (in my 24g nano) and everyone on the board convinced me it would be better in the long run to get it out before my tank cycles. So, out it goes.

yep it wont stay where you want it the CC will be right on top over time and then you have the same problem but then you just wasted all the sand that is mixed up with all the CC. I would do it all at once if I was going to change over.
