So I'm building my own hood for my 55g. I built a frame to hang the light for my wife's tank which came out fairly well. So I'm moving up to hood manufacturing.
I bought some TekII reflectors, end caps, stands, and bulbs but held off on purchasing the ballasts as I would like to recycle the ballasts from my current light. But I'm not sure if I can. I've read that some ballasts are suitable for many different types of lighting; ie. PC, VHO, T5, etc., but then some are not. The current light is a Current Dual Satellite w/ 4 x 65W bulbs. Unless I take the light a part, I can only see the brand of one of the ballasts in there. I believe it says sunpak on it. When I get home I will verify.
