My wife and I went to the lfs and I fell in love with some shrooms, and 1 10lb LR. My wigfe said that I could have those if she could get something for the tank. She decided on a sea-apple. It looks cool in all but I heard that if they die it will kill ur hole tank. I was hopeing that some others out here could tell me some stuff on this guy and there experence with them. Thx Rick:D

I have heard they are hardy. The need a specialized diet of phtoplakton to live. The toxin can wipe out all the fish in your tank. Due a search on Pseudocolochirus to gain more knowledge about them.

You got me curious so I did a quick search on the boards and google to see what I could find out about them - yes they are toxic, and will release a toxin that poisons everything in the tank if they die.
It sounds like some people have been able to keep them pretty successfully, but lots others have not, and paid the price for it.
I found this on another site and it seems to agree with the other stuff I read in the last few minutes
"It prefers an established reef aquarium with room to move about, and large amounts of live rock from which it receives a majority of its food. Once it finds a favorable location, usually in a high current area, the Sea Apple will generally stay there. Protect all intakes on pumps and power heads, to eliminate any possibility of being sucked in. It is very sensitive to high levels of copper-based medications. Sudden changes in pH or salinity can cause it to shed its oral tentacles."
IMO I wouldn't want to put something in my tank that has the level of care it sounds like these have especially considering the potential of releasing a poison that kills everything else, if it should die. I think thats one critter best left in the ocean, as cool as they are.

Oregonbud I just read the same thing off of google. I talked to my wife and read it to her and she said that she would like to sit on this 1 for a couple of days and see how it reacts to our tank. If nothing happen and I'm still worried about the apple then I canm take it back. So I told her that we can try it and see what happens. Now 1 question, in all the articals that I have read it says it will kill all your fish. But I didn't read 1 that said that it would kill corals, srooms, leathers and ext. I will let you all know in a couple days what has happened to this interesting looking guy. Talk to you all soon thx for input Rick

Ok my wife says that tomorrow we will take it back and get some fire fish that she likes. I pointed out that if this thing dies and we dont cautch it then all that $ went down the drain. At 1st she had a problem with the response until I started to add it all up for her:eek: . But TY all for your response and showing me where to look. Now we will ask here before purchaseing anything that we are unawhere of. THX GUYS :p I really do love this site :D . RICK

Many consider the Pseudocolochirus violaceus a high-maintenance specimen. Venomous, it will secrete poisonous membranes if it dies. Aggressive when tentacles hook something. Ultra-sensitive to alkalinity changes, and will be venomous if it dies. It requires an expert reef keeper.
HTH :)
