Candy Cane Is This What They Look Like?

Give your candy more time. You may want to move it if it is too close to something more aggressive.
Phosphates?
The 'spines' or 'spokes' are just the hard skeleton parts.

Well the silly candy cane still wont come out during the day. But at night as soon as the lights go out, out come the little feeder tentacles. So I spot fed it and you could see if waving and looked like it was feeding. Used Micro-Vert. Moved it to a little more light, it isn't by anything aggressive. I guess time will tell.

The trigger will kill him. Triggers will blow water underneath an urchin to knock it upside down, then quickly dispatch it from the underside.
Those longspines are neat but yeah they plow down all your coraline and will knock down anything in their path. They are surprisingly strong. I had one in one of my reef systems until about a month ago, when I pulled him out and moved him to my FO system for the above reason.

I don't have anywhere for him to go. So far he hasn't knocked anything down, just eats all of my coraline. I put algae clipped to the side and he does go there and eat also. I guess I just might have to take him into the LFS. Of my three tanks, 2 are reef, and the other has the trigger. I really like watching Arnold Swartzenpoker, but my coral are my main focus. I guess I could move him to my rubbermate QT tank.

Up date on Candy Cane Coral. It looks like it is puffing up some now during the day.

At least it's spiny skeleton isn't quite so spiny looking. It looks a little plumper now. Thanks for the helpful info and telling me to hang in there. I guess they just are tempermental sometimes.
I will post some pictures of it tomorrow so you can see the difference. Now I will have to figure out where and how to place it in the rocks so I can remover the jar.
The jar sure works good for having a safe place for the coral if you aren't sure where to put it or to be able to move it easier if need be when they first arrive.

When you do that, it is going to go spastic for a short period of time. Don't sweat it though. Just hang in there. You will notice slight puffiness then just one day WHAM!!! The thing will look like a blimp.

here's a pic of the one i have...if you look at the 4 small ones...they resemble the ones in the pics above....the big ones are how they can open up....the 4 small ones are always in the shade from the bigger ones around them (doesnt look that way in pic but i had the flash on). so my guess is when they are small like that and not opening up like the big ones,,,,it might need more light.
