They are beautiful fish, aren't they? Here's my take on them:
Be careful to find out exactly how large these fish can get.
Being listed as a carnivore, and judging by the way the fish looks, I would bet he will dine on hitchhiker worms. Another indication is that they warn the keeper about these fish dining on ornamental shrimp.
I have recently aquired 2 red cigar wrasse that are almost identical to the CC hogfish, except the tail is yellow, not black. Hogfish and wrasse are closely related, so I imagine similar in several ways.
Mine are not jumpers. They are VERY agressive feeders (not mean at all, just concerned about their own bellies) they eat a lot and quickly!
They have controlled my worm population exceedingly well.
They sleep in the sand bed, completely submerged, so you cannot see them at all, I don't know if hogfish do this.
