Canister Filter vs Wet/Dry Sump. Which is better, do I need both which requires more mantinence? I have a 32 gal FWLR and I have a fluval 304, works excellent but requires cleaning just about once a week.

Just curious but why do you need to clean it every week. I only clean mine about every 2 months or so. What media are you using? I think its a good filter and its on my 65 gallon and works great.

as i have found they can both work just as well and the other but with a canister filter you have no need for daily top offs or worries of overflows during a power outage .as for changing media weekly its the best way to keep nitrates from building up i also do that in my wetdries

I am using Carbon, Ceramic Bio media and the foam. I don't change the media ever week but I rinse it well with hot water, (except the ceramic). It looks fairly dirty when I do Brown sponges and greenish brown carbon bags.
Is there any benifits to a sump?

Yes there are alot of benefits to a sump. Added water volume for one, easier to top off or do water changes, add chemicals if necessary, put a fuge in, added filtration if desired, put things like cheato in, will give you a stable water level in you're DT, put other equipment in so as not seen in the DT. I have in mine ,my DIY skimmer pump, heater and auto top off and so far loving it! Plus it was pretty cheap, some plumbing, a pump, someone gave me (ty tim) an OF, and a rubbermaid container.
