gosh, I am not sure about the syphon button, my husband got it started. We purchased it at the lfs (dumb dumb dumb) and paid 200.00, I but I know I have seen them much much much cheaper online. It does however have these great valve turn offs when you need to remove it from under the cabinet that prevent any mess or leaking at disconnect. That feature I think is fantastic.

in order to get those shut-offs with the Magnum you have to get the magnum 350 pro... comes with a bunch of other gadgetry... hose brush, biowheel, shut-offs, other stuff.... pushes the price up to about $100, otherwise you have to get them seperately. I still need to put my valves in... Ive had this beast about 10 years and still drip all over the place when i clean that thing... what a loser I am!!!

im sure this has been addressed before but here goes...
I use mine only for carbon... how often should I change out the carbon to avoid the spent carbon from becoming bio-media?

Change it out at least once a month.
A good quality carbon will not leach phosphates but trapped particles and junk from not changing it out regularly can!!
I personally run carbon for 1-week each month, using new carbon each time.

HI Reefnut, I ran mine for a couple of week and saw that cyano as a change in the tank...maybe I should have not run it so long. I used the carbon pads you put in the eheim so not sure what the deal was but for 22 bucks for 3 of them I think they were good ones. I do change my filter "cotton" on top every 2 weeks. That is all I do...how else do you "clean" your cannister? Just curious!
